Well, the guy advocating 2 kids per family is, of course, a complete idiot. Most western countries (and Japan) are already below the replacement birthrate. The US has one of the higher birthrates in the developed world and even so we're barely at break even. Japan is losing population. So is Russia. A number of Western European countries with rising populations are doing so only because of immigration from third world countries. I have mixed feelings about Mark Steyn but his book "America Alone" has a lot of data about declining birthrates and the problem it is causing in some countries and the demographic shift that will occur in many, particularly Western Europe, as they become predominantly Muslim.

Childhood obesity is certainly a problem but our cultural and individual appetites are out-of-control and government is certainly not the solution for fixing this. I'd suggest that parent's could help their obese kids, James, but (and I include myself in this mix) most parents are morons. So, what to do? I don't know...I do what I can with my family, and I promise to spend more time on my light box tomorrow morning, and perhaps the world will seem less grim than it does today...
