Really interesting. I was invited to a local Russian cafe for an after hours social. It ended up being a September 11 commemoration. We toasted to the victims' memory with Russian and "Old Russia" vodka (see where its made), ate pickled herring and borscht. I had no idea what they were talking about most of the time because the conversation was in Russian. For an hour I had stepped out of Oklahoma.
No American I know ever mentions doing a memorial of any kind. The fact that the Russians do it is thought provoking.
