Separation of Lab and State

Separation of Lab and State

Here in Washington our governor is addressing the threat of global warming. Yeah, I worry about the cost of this as of yet undetailed program, here is where I will complain right off:

Gregoire said the past 45 days, which have included floods and a tornado in Washington, have been a wake-up call for her and the state: “This is mother nature’s way of saying to us: Take notice. Take action.”

How retarded are we? No seriously, how retarded are we? There is not one modicum of scientific fact or evidence that could possibly even suggest that the last 45 days of Washington weather is indicative (let alone a warning klaxon from mother nature) of climate change. No matter what you believe about anthropogenic climate change, this sort of talk just reveals how crazy it can get when the Lab and State (and pop culture) get in bed.

What I have noticed is that people like to make up cataclysms and then set about preventing and/or solving them. My neighbor talks about a giant planet that moves through our solar system every 3600 years and is isscheduled to return at any minute. in 1999 people were worried about Y2K. I'm sure you can remember a couple of dozen from the last 20 years. I think it all goesback to people knowing the world is screwed up but not wanting to trust God tofix ithis way.
