An unworthy Deacon, named for the brother of God: James, striving to "work out his salvation with fear and trembling" within the Tradition (paradosis) of the Eastern Orthodox Faith. It is a strange and marvelous journey, and I am accompanied by the fourfold fruit of my fecundity. My wife, the Matushka or Diaconissa Sophia, is my beloved partner in the pursuit of Theosis, and she ranks me in every way.
I just received the following email from my good brother John
Dear Fathers, Brothers & Sisters,
Our parish in Washington, DC is beginning to raise
funds for the families of the victims of the
terrible acts of terrorism in the town of Beslan in
North Osetia during which more than 500 people lost
their lives, mostly children. If you can help,
please send checks to
St. John R.O. Church
4001 17th St. NW
Washington, DC 20011
In the memo section please note: Beslan.
We will indicate that the money represents gifts
from Orthodox Christians from all parts of United
Fr. Victor Potapov
You know James…this thing is really tearing us all up pretty good.
I didn’t really know how much I’d been suppressing my feelings until last night. While serving, Father made the commemorations during the Great Entrance for those affected in Beslan, and I came unglued. I nearly dropped the censor! I couldn’t get myself together even inside the sanctuary...so much so that when he sensed the gifts and handed me back the censor I left a good gob of slobber on his hand!
It did provide for break in the intensity we were all feeling, nevertheless, it proved to me what we learned in catechism that the universal worship of Church is felt by all and in every place of His dominion.
