REVELATION!

REVELATION!

Scientific community and Main Stream Media discover that in the early history of the Church there were gnostics and other odd mystical belief systems that may or may not have anything at all to do with Christianity. All of this, of course, assuming that the bowl and engraving is legitimate. It kinda looks to me like someone recently went to work with their swiss army knife on that thing - awfully clean looking cuts for being nearly 2000 years old...but then...what do I know.

Orthodox Church responds: DUH.

Take a look here for some better coverage. The inscription was done pre-firing, through the slip, which is why it looks so new. Scratching into fired clay looks entirely different. The pot was found in a controlled excavation by a respected archaeologist, as well. So, it's not a fraud. That said, the inscription is everything but clear.

Nice pics...I was mostly joking about the forgery though. That said, I have precious little faith in archeological interpretation of things cultural/religious.

Cool find though!
