Saint Brigid Farm

Sue has the general story of how we settled on this name, including pics of the labeling we will be using. She did a great job on it! And what's more:

St. Brigid has at least THREE Beer related miracles: twice she turned water into beer and once a single barrel of her brew miraculously supplies 18 churches with beer. All inspired by her propensity for hospitality.

So...yes, come to St. Brigid's Farm. The guest cabin is begun and the beer is in the fridge.

Still musing on the image of a "great lake of beer" for the King of Kings, and the people drinking it through time eternal - better not let parish council find out ;-).. Maybe St. Brigid should become the patroness of the league? after all, we started out sampling highly refined beer????

Anyone for the fellowship of Sts. Drostan and Brigid?

Oddly, I picked up a brief biography of Brigid at the library about a month ago. It was old and not so fun-loving, so the quote about the beer is new to me.

Any chance you'll be marketing the home brew soon?

Well, I've done some "self-brew" down at Heads-Up Brewery (a local "U brew" place).

There has been talk of trying a bit of distilling...but we shall see. Too much other livestock related stuff going on at the moment.

It would be nice for a water-to-beer miracle amidst our many labors right now :)

At one point, there was a group of nuns dedicated to St. Brigid who produced beer, but their order was dispersed/slaughtered by Cromwell sometime during his Irish campaigns. In their time, they'd brewed beer apparently since the 9th century at least (they're refered to once as having made beer for a minor king in Ulster at the time).

Good choice for a name.
