The Orthodox delegation was sent by the spiritual leader of the world's 200 million Orthodox, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I

{snip}

Papal authority remains a key difference in efforts to bring Catholics and Orthodox closer together.

Basil: When are we Orthodox going to figure out that you don't fight fire with fire? As long as an Orthodox Patriarch continues to make claims that he is the leader of all the World's Orthodox Christians, then our point that the Pope is not the leader of all the world's Christians hasn't got a leg to stand on !

Oh, poor Patriarch Bartholomew. He was educated in Rome by Jesuits, it's no wonder he's having an identity crisis. ;-)

Meg,

Just out of curiosity, where were you educated? Do you think your education was likely more Orthodox than Patriarch Bartholomew's? Does that make you more or less Orthodox than him?

Seems your comment is a cheap shot.

Oughtn't we try and be more gracious?

Basil,

Do you know that he took that title to himself? Perhaps he does, though I've not known of it. It seems more likely though that the news article itself ignorantly wrote that, as I've often seen. They frequently don't understand how to interpret "First among equals" and the like.
