British Anglicans offer "a new service."

They are calling it: "House Blessings."

"Crackin good idear Gromit!" said Bishop Wallace, "They'll be showing up in droves now!"

And the Orthodox say: "Now why didn't we think of that?"

thanks sf!

The really curious thing is this isn't even new for Anglicans. I've been getting house (or apartment) blessings for quite some time. It's not even new for Jews or Pagans.

I got one one once from a good friend who was an RC priest. I'm just wondering if the Clergy sent out a press release or the news service was having a slow day.

I thought it odd...but then it was never offered to me while I was in the ECUSA. Somethings you have to special order.

Ya know HR, upon further reflection I bet the "new" is related to the content of the blessing (e.g. the Akathist of Sanitation and the Blessing of Bedroom Bungee Cords and Handcuffs)

James, you may be right. Some of the "new things" are odd.

I think the House Blessings I've had were all "High Church" rather than low. It was never offered, that's true - there is no traditional time in the Western Church for such things (unlike the time after Theophany in the Eastern Church). But it was there...

It may also have been on the "Extreme End" of the ANglo-Catholics, used only by those who had need or knowledge of it. - Rather like the blessing of a Rosary. (My Episcopal priest was OVERJOYED the day I showed up and asked for my rosary to be blessed. Even though the parish bookstore sold the things, no one had ever seen one blessed except Fr John.)
