Revenge of the Pentecostal Babushkas!


Here we see a group of Babushkas "lean dangerously close to violence."

Tongue speaking, gay bashing Babushkas...what a crazy world. Spat upon and yelled at? Heck they are getting off easy...try irking one of our Orthodox Babushkas by sitting in church with your legs crossed or something, you'd be looking to form the "inquirers self-defense organization."

Gay and fundie groups will go on fighting like cats and dogs I suppose, but the real sad part of this story are all these slavs who have apparently left Orthodoxy.

I would suggest that they may not even *know* about Orthodoxy. There was an active Baptist community even in Soviet times, that capitalized on the Orthodox Church's inability to help people by telling them things like, "Your own historical Church doesn't care about you." After the fall of the Soviet Union, and before the government intervention to limit the number of missionary efforts in Russia, vast amounts of dollars came into Russia in the form of medical and other missionaries from fundamentalist churches, all with the same message: The Orthodox Church "wasn't doing anything," and they failed to point out that the Church wasn't doing anything because it didn't have the capital to sink into practical help -- they didn't even have the capital to print Bibles, for heaven's sake. The situation in modern-day Russia is much better, of course, but these folks all left before that came about.

That picture looks SO doctored. What are the chances that these babushki printed out their plackards in perfect 420-pt. Helvetic font? I've seen another VERY FUNNY one that comes to mind:
