"The Offending Display"

I originally had this in the post below, but when I watched the news video on the linked news site I decided it needed larger "airplay" here. Note how the ACLU lawyer refers to the icon. I guess he's right though...our Lord's image is profoundly offensive.

ACLU wants icon out of courthouse.

I'd like to know how on earth it got there to begin with????

Well, the judge said it's been on display for nine years. Gee, weren't there a lot of Orthodox religious artifacts being sold off by street hawkers in the 1990's?

There's a couple of OCA missions in Louisiana (including one right down the road in New Orleans). I'm sure THEY'D be happy to have a 16th-century Russian icon of Christ...

I wondered - because it wasn't clear - if this was an authentic 16th century icon or a copy. An authentic one would be worth a pretty penny and what better way to thumb their noses at the ACLU (who cannot muster the understanding to see how calling it an offensive display might be offensive) than to give it people who will properly reverence it.
